Argentina VS Chile 2024

Argentina player ratings vs Chile: Julian Alvarez and Alexis Mac Allister run the show in Lionel Messi's absence as La Albiceleste pick up World Cup Qualifying victory!!!

The reigning world champions showcased their dominance in Thursday’s match, with Atletico Madrid’s new signing proving why the Rojiblancos invested heavily in him. In their first outing since winning the 2024 Copa America, Argentina comfortably defeated Chile 3-0 in their World Cup qualifier. Goals from Alexis Mac Allister, Julian Alvarez, and Paulo Dybala secured a commanding victory and all three points for Argentina.

Before the match, La Albiceleste, along with fans in the stadium and around the world, bid an emotional farewell to Argentina legend Ángel Di María. The dynamic winger, who announced his international retirement after winning the Copa America, delivered a heartfelt speech with his family by his side in front of a sold-out crowd. Flashlights from cell phones lit up the stands as cheers echoed throughout the stadium.

After a fiercely contested first half, the score remained 0-0 at the break. However, Argentina came out with renewed intensity, and just three minutes into the second half, Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring with a strike assisted by Julián Álvarez.

While Mac Allister made the initial impact, it was Álvarez who stole the spotlight in the second half, stepping up in the absence of the injured Lionel Messi. The Atlético Madrid striker thrived in a front-two role, and in the 84th minute, he produced a moment of magic. Receiving the ball on the edge of the box, Álvarez executed a brilliant turn and unleashed a powerful shot that bounced off the crossbar and into the net.

In stoppage time, Roma’s Paulo Dybala added a third goal, coming off the bench to fire a strike into the back of the net.

With this victory, Lionel Scaloni’s team remained at the top of the CONMEBOL standings in World Cup qualifying, earning 18 points out of 21. They now hold a five-point lead over second-place Uruguay, with third-place Colombia, their next opponent on Tuesday, close behind.
